Bi-direction DC Motor Speed Controller with Optical Rotary Encoder

Description: A control circuit for a DC motor with directional and speed control. The control circuit is implemented using relays and a NPN transistor. It accepts standard digital inputs for direction and a digital pulse width modulated input to determine motor speed. Also included is an optical rotary encoder for motor position and speed sensing. The output of the encoder is an open collector digital output for use in a microcontroller or computer. The combination of the speed controller, encoder, and microcontroller can form a closed loop control system for high precision position or speed control.
